LiLo’s Gal Pal DJ Samantha Ronson Spotted In New Porsche Targa

No matter how wickedly you scratch it up, I still can’t imagine that dj-ing pays any better then a full time managerial gig at The Gap…Nevertheless, DJ Samantha Ronson has been spotted behind the wheel of a new Porsche Targa with Lindsay Lohan riding shotgun.

So here’s what I think: either a.) Ronson sprung for the Porsche herself, b.) Lilo sprung for the Porsche, c.) Porsche sprung for the Porsche, in an attempt at marketing to a whole new demographic ["Porsche, it's the new Subaru Outback"], or d.) It doesn’t matter because LiLo isn’t the busty beauty she used to be and her girlfriend isn’t anybody you’d want to watch her make out with.

On September 1, 1950, the first Porsche-assembled automobile outfitted with a Porsche engine successfully finished production. Although two years earlier Ferry Porsche and his team had already created the first official vehicle to bear the Porsche name, it wasn’t until this date in 1950 that a Porsche with 100% Porsche-manufactured parts was produced. A few months later, after the company’s return Zuffenhausen, Germany, Porsche became an independently owned and operated manufacturer. In 1951, Porsche cemented their future as a major name in the performance car arena with their first victory at Le Mans.

Wimmer RS has recently come out with a tuning package that comes at a steep price, but if you can afford the car already, then so what? It will now come with a software modified win-turbo 3.6-liter boxer engine, redesigned cylinder heads and high performance camshafts. This will get you 680 hp and 870 Nm of torque. The outer remains mostly unchanged outside of carbon fiber rear lip spoiler, carbon fiber mirror housings, 20-inch Sportec wheels, and a lowered suspension.

Porsche Panamera to get diesel option?

AutoWeek apparently has it on good authority that Porsche has plans for a diesel engine not just for its Cayenne Sport Utility, but also for its upcoming sedan, the Panamera. The Panamera will assuredly be getting a gasoline engine, perhaps mirroring the Cayenne's V6 and V8 options, and will also be equipped with an optional hybrid drivetrain which will likely feature the direct-injected 3.6 liter V6 engine. Porsche had been hesitant to offer an oil-burner in its range of sportscars, but perhaps the sedan would benefit from the increased fuel mileage a diesel engine would offer.

We don't know what diesel engine is slated for the Panamera, but the Cayenne will be getting a 3.0 liter turbo diesel V6 engine from Audi, so that seems a distinct possibility for the sedan as well. Porsche could also choose an Audi diesel V8 engine or even the Volkswagen diesel V10 or 6.0-liter Audi diesel V12 if they fit underhood. Also spinning in the rumormill are Focus-like fender vents and a targa top.

VW Passes Exxon As World's Largest Company By Market Cap [VW Is Bigger Than Big Oil]

A massive stock price surge in shares of Volkswagen after Porsche's weekend news they'd be snagging a 75% share of the automaker, has briefly allowed VW to stake the claim as the world's largest company by market capitalization, passing oil giant Exxon Mobil. Volkswagen continued to climb Tuesday as short sellers rushed to cover positions with VW shares rising as much as 93% on Tuesday in what we're terming the craziest short sale of all time. With mid-day gains of "just" 50%, the stock is trading about five times higher than lows reached in January. Who knew Porsche could still cause such a stir? Whatever — it won't last long.

Since it's just short-seller covering positions, and sales are only up 3.9% (although that's not too shabby in these times), we're expecting the price to come back down to earth shortly.

But, for the moment VW shares, with a free float estimated to be as low as 5% with Porsche and the Lower State of Saxony holding much of the company, were at its high of Tuesday worth 295 billion euros, or $367 billion. Exxon Mobil closed Monday with a market capitalization of $343 billion. Quick, Congress, get to the floor and pass another tax break for "Big Oil!" We'll teach the Germans nobody pushes our oil companies around. [Marketwatch]
